DIY Fall Decorations: Seasonal Favorites

With the changing of the seasons comes cooler weather, but also changing decorations around the house. I’ve always been a fan of this time of year, with the orange and red tones painting the trees. So, I thought it would be kind of neat to talk about some great ideas for Do-It-Yourself (DIY) Fall and seasonal decoration favorites. Check these out!

Whether it’s for a party, get-together, or just for you and the family – a little fall decoration and seasonal spirit can go a long way. This time of year brings warmth and togetherness, and it never hurts to heighten those feelings.

  • A center piece for your dinner table made from a fall colored bowl and some found items. Dried orange leaves, hand selected twigs/branches, and pine cones can do the trick. Be sure the items you find are thoroughly cleaned, then decorate ’til your heart’s content.

Pumpkins last a surprisingly long time, and with a little paint and a stencil, you can transition to the next holiday with the same decoration! Try monogramming one, paper mache-ing one, or even just painting them your favorite fall colors (other than orange, obviously).
  • Mason Jar crafts. A mason Jar is one of the most versatile crafts tools, especially for seasonal decor. Try making a terrarium, a luminary, a candle-holder, or even a fall votive. Masons even make great light fixtures – not necessarily for Fall, but just in general.
  • A Fall Wreath. Here is another classic decoration for the season. As we approach the Christmas season, the wreath becomes abundant, and what better way to get in the spirit than by making your own. You can start with circular frame and build out from there. Try using dried leaves that you can find outdoors, or for a longer term wreath, cut cloth or other materials for a fall looking decoration.

These are just a few ideas to get you started, but I’d love to hear some others that you might have in your own personal bag of tricks. Let us know your favorites in the comment section below.

What is your favorite seasonal decoration item – home-made or not?
